Residents of Waterside Village in Taylorsville are planning a breakfast fundraiser on behalf of Ronald McDonald House Charity in downtown Salt Lake City.
The event will take place in a common area inside Waterside Village, off of 2200 W. 4400 South, on Labor Day morning from 8 to 10 a.m. and include a pancake breakfast, with scrambled eggs, sausage and juice.
Organizers are seeking a suggested donation of $3 per plate, with all funds going directly to the charity.
Harmon's grocery store is donating the eggs, and residents are seeking additional donations and sponsorship to defray the costs. Among the organizers is Waterside Village HOA President Ron Price, who is a volunteer Chaplain at Primary Children's Hospital in the Ronald McDonald Family Room and an on-call Chaplain at the House itself. He has volunteered and worked with the Ronald McDonald House for almost four years.
"The organization provides a safe place to stay, to sleep, to eat meals, at no costs to families that have a child in a hospital, as long as they are 50 miles or more away from home," Price said. "Hundreds and hundreds of family use the facilities each week. It costs many, many dollars to provide these needed services at no cost to the family.
"Today alone, I spent some time with a family from Las Vegas, if their son had not been here within 30 minutes of his arrival, he would have died," Price added. "Another family that I was with today was here from Indianapolis, two others from southern Idaho. It is not just the State of Utah that services are provided for, but all over the nation and many places from far away countries, too."
It is Price's hope that people will come and enjoy a Labor Day breakfast with friends and neighbors, while also contributing to a very worthwhile cause.
