McDougal Funeral Homes in Taylorsville has been helping families honor their loved ones since 1950, and this year, the business celebrated 75 years of service with a community party featuring games, prizes and a car show, along with the opening of its new Gathering Hall.
The hall offers an open, inviting space suited not only for funeral viewings but also for wedding receptions, birthday parties, dinners and holiday celebrations. It seats up to 90 guests at banquet tables or 140 in rows for memorial services. The funeral home and Gathering Hall are located at 4330 S. Redwood Road.
“We pride ourselves in our deep-rooted tradition of providing high-quality service,” said owner and president Ron McDougal, whose great uncle R. David, along with his brother Richard, founded the funeral home.
The origins of the business trace back to when R. David McDougal, then just 8 years old, lost his grandmother. Impressed by the compassion shown by funeral home staff during her service, he resolved to enter the profession himself. Ron later joined at the invitation of his great uncles and now carries on their legacy of care.
At the anniversary celebration on Aug. 16, city officials and ChamberWest representatives joined the family in marking the milestone. R. David’s son Kirk reflected that the most rewarding part of the work is caring for people. He recalled offering pet services to comfort a young girl grieving the loss of her hedgehog. “It was a real endearment,” he said. “She was 6 years old and had not experienced a death in her family before.”
Ron agreed that such moments define the heart of the business. “Together, we’re committed to bringing genuine compassion and dignity to our services, honoring your loved one’s legacy during challenging times."
Mayor Kristie Overson also praised the new Gathering Hall at a recent City Council meeting. “It’s just lovely, and it was well worth our time to be there to give them our support and reminisce,” she said.
