Post Date:09/04/2025 11:00 a.m.

Cleanup Day 2025This year’s annual Cleanup Day saw the collection of literally tons of waste for recycling and safe disposal, and for the fourth year in a row, the Taylorsville Football team did yeoman’s work in helping to make the event a great success.

In addition to the football team, the Taylorsville Police Department also provided outstanding help with logistics, prescription collection and safety. “We really appreciate all the volunteers, community partners and employees who assist us in this effort,” said Taylorsville Code Enforcement Manager Kathleen Richins."We could not do this without them."

The Taylorsville Green Committee, which sponsored the May 17 event, also specifically recognized and thanked participating vendors: Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District, The Other Side Thrift Boutique, Certified Shred and Redwood Recycling.

"The Cleanup Day was still very busy, even though two of the big draws were not there," noted City Council Member Ernest Burgess, who is the council's liaison to the Green Committee.

This year, household hazardous waste and electronic waste were filtered over to the new Salt Lake County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Center in Sandy. The Taylorsville Green Committee, which organizes the Cleanup Day each year, encouraged residents to take their household hazardous waste and e-waste to the HHW facility this year instead of saving up that waste for the event.

The collection center is located at 8805 S. 700 West, and it accepts household hazardous waste and e-waste six days a week, all year long. It’s also free for Salt Lake County residents to use anytime during their business hours, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Plus, using the center whenever needed rather than storing such items has the added benefit of improving the health of safety of your home and environment.

In all, the Green Committee collected the following this year:

  • 100 pounds of prescription drugs
  • 10 tons of bulk waste
  • 5 tons of green waste
  • 1.5  tons of recyclables
  • 200 pounds of glass
  • 520 pounds of clothing
  • 4 tons of documents for shredding

If you’d like to get involved with this and similar activities, please contact the Green Committee here, and remember to recycle, reuse and repurpose throughout the year.
