Post Date:03/24/2026 11:39 a.m.

Youth Council Legislature VisitMembers of the Taylorsville Youth Council had an unforgettable experience at the Utah State Capitol this past month. Accompanied by Mayor Kristie Overson and City Council Members Bob Knudsen and Meredith Harker, the students toured the historic building, observed Senate and House debates and participated in a private meeting with local representatives.

The day offered the young leaders a rare opportunity to see state government in action and ask questions directly of lawmakers. “It’s inspiring to watch these teens engage with the legislative process,” Mayor Kristie Overson said. “Experiences like this help them understand how decisions are made and how they can make a difference in our community.”

Youth Council members expressed excitement about the hands-on learning, saying the visit gave them a better appreciation for the responsibilities of elected officials and the importance of civic participation.

City officials also praised the students for their curiosity, dedication and enthusiasm. “Taylorsville’s future is in great hands,” Mayor Overson added. “We are proud to support these young leaders as they learn, grow and prepare to shape our city and state for years to come.”
