A new designation is putting service front and center in Taylorsville, as the city steps forward as an official JustServe City and expands how residents can connect with volunteer opportunities.
The recognition as a JustServe City was presented to the Taylorsville City Council and Mayor Kristie Overson during the Council’s April 15 meeting. The designation highlights the city’s commitment to promoting volunteerism and strengthening partnerships with local nonprofits and service organizations.
JustServe is a free online platform that connects individuals, families and groups with service opportunities tailored to a wide range of interests and needs. Through the site, organizations can post volunteer needs, while community members can browse and sign up for projects that fit their schedules and skills.
“JustServe is an incredible resource that helps people help people,” said Annette Hansen, a JustServe coordinating specialist. “There are so many different ways to serve, whether it’s helping at a food bank, tying quilts, collecting coats for a clothing drive or reading with children at schools. Some projects can even be done from home, making it accessible to everyone.”
Hansen noted that becoming a JustServe City means Taylorsville is actively supporting and encouraging local nonprofits to share their needs on the platform, making it easier for residents to find and participate in service opportunities.
“To become a JustServe City, Taylorsville recognizes and supports this effort,” she said. “We’re working to make sure nonprofits in the city have postings so residents can easily connect with opportunities to serve.”
Mayor Overson accepted the recognition on behalf of the city, emphasizing the role service plays in building a strong and connected community.
“We are honored to be recognized as a JustServe City,” Mayor Overson said. “Service is at the heart of what makes Taylorsville such a strong and connected community. This partnership creates even more opportunities for our residents to get involved, give back and support one another.”
She added that the designation aligns with the city’s ongoing efforts to foster community connection and civic engagement.
“When people come together to serve, it strengthens neighborhoods and builds lasting relationships,” Mayor Overson said. “We’re grateful for the work JustServe is doing to make those connections easier and more accessible for everyone.”
JustServe operates locally, nationally and internationally, offering a broad range of service opportunities that reflect the needs of communities around the world. From one-time projects to ongoing volunteer roles, the platform is designed to make it simple for anyone to participate.
