Artist's description of the art piece: "Dropsy was inspired by the idea of fluid pushing outward against two walls."
It can be scaled up as a public or private monumental installation. Ted has been exploring strong geometric forms in combination with a primitive corrugated texture, smooth and polished surfaces. The goal is an interesting juxtaposition of materials and surface textures.
Moving away from the utilitarian boxes and non-functional vessels of his past, Ted’s new work is purely sculptural emphasizing strong horizontal balance, tension and negative space. Larger forms frame and direct the viewer toward a focal point or focal space. “Functional objects have size limitations whereas sculpture does not,” he said.
Artist's bio: Ted Schaal graduated from Colorado State University in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and has worked and lived in Loveland, Colo., for 20 years. He has public commissions in St. Louis, Mo., Cerritos, Calif., Boothbay, Maine, and Little Rock, Ark.
Collectors from Spain to Japan have found his work on the internet and on display at more than 60 exhibitions. His limited edition and one-of-a-kind bronze/stainless steel sculptures have won 14 awards, and he has been featured in the book "Sculptors of the Rockies," as well as "Vail Valley Magazine" and "Southwest Art."
