Artist's description of the art piece: "This bronze casting is an exploration of the artist’s interest in seeds and propagation. Flowers, in all their showy, colorful profusion are noticeable and dominant in defining the 'beauty' of a plant.
"Yet, these ephemeral blossoms fade quickly, to be replaced by that for which the plant exists — the seeds.
"Though more simple, seeds are beautiful and long lasting, preserving the future. 'Last Season's Seedpod' is a depiction of a pod deteriorating and leaving a lovely lacey casing around the seeds."
Artist's bio: Nathan Johansen looks to nature for the forms he uses in his work. Plants with their seeds, in all their various stages of development, are rich in symbols and patterns that repeat in all life.
Nathan's deep sensitivity to the natural world is embodied in his depictions of the cycles of plants and seeds and their relationship to mankind.
A Utah resident, Nathan graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine art from Brigham Young University. He worked in the art casting field for more than 30 years but is now working full time as a sculptor.
