Artist's description of the art piece: "'Paleolithic' draws inspiration from bone structures and the smooth formations found in nature.
"What I loved most about this piece was my discovery during the carving process: fossil remnants and streaks of purple veining, dating back hundreds of millions of years, embedded within the black marble.
"The sculpture is meant to give the viewer a moment of wonder."
Artist's bio: Myles Howell grew up in southern Utah and has always been inspired by desert landscapes and things found in nature.
He received a master's degree of fine arts in sculpture from Utah State University in spring 2018. Myles enjoys the art of stone carving and is currently teaching his techniques as an adjunct professor at USU. His current body of work is based on the abstraction of bone structures and forms that inspire him as an artist. He works from his home studio in Logan, Utah.
