Sponsorship of 281 Wreaths Sought for 2025 Ceremony

wreaths across americaThe City of Taylorsville and Taylorsville Youth Council are taking part in National Wreaths Across America Day, a nationwide initiative that honors veterans across the country.

This year, the Youth Council is seeking sponsorship of 281 wreaths to be laid at each veteran's grave at the Taylorsville City Cemetery, and as of the end of October, only 98 remembrance wreaths had been sponsored with sponsorship of 183 wreaths still needed. You can find additional details and sponsor a wreath by clicking the button above.

Through the program, wreath-laying ceremonies are coordinated at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad. In Taylorsville, there will be two parts to the wreaths ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13. The first part starts promptly at 10 a.m. at Taylorsville City Hall, indoors in the City Council Chambers. The importance of starting on time is because it coincides with the ceremony at Arlington. All are invited to attend.

The second part of the ceremony will take place around 11 a.m. outdoors at the Taylorsville City Cemetery, 4567 S. Redwood Road, where wreaths will be laid on all 281 veterans' graves there. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly for the outdoor portion of the ceremony. Parking will be at Salt Lake Community College.

In addition to assistance from the Taylorsville Youth Council, Taylorsville High School JROTC and the veterans' and first responders' support organization Honor365, community members are invited to help lay the wreaths and speak each veteran's name in remembrance. (Below is the livestream of the ceremony from 2022, as well as videos of previous years' events).

“We are so honored to participate in this moving initiative honoring veterans and thank all those who have sponsored a remembrance wreath,” said Mayor Kristie Overson. “The ceremony has become a highlight of the holidays."

The remembrance wreaths are hand-crafted of all-American balsam and hand-tied with a red velvet bow in Columbia Falls, Maine, and then sent to participating locations. The wreaths are $17 each to sponsor.

Now in its fourth year with the city, the Taylorsville Youth Council chose the Wreaths Across America initiative as its holiday service project. For more information about Wreaths Across America and Honor365, please visit wreathsacrossamerica.org and honor365.org
