Artist's description of the art piece: “Boys with Apple” captures an everyday moment of connection between two boys riding a subway together. Despite its title, the painting focuses on the simple interaction of one boy sharing something on his cellphone with the other, celebrating the quiet moments of daily life. Through expressive brushwork, vibrant color and rich detail, the piece invites viewers to appreciate the beauty found in ordinary experiences.

Artist's bio: Mercedes Ng is a Hong Kong-born artist and painter who lives and works in Salt Lake City. Her vibrant oil paintings often draw inspiration from her childhood in Hong Kong, featuring cityscapes, still-lifes and everyday scenes that celebrate ordinary life with warmth and color.

Mercedes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in 2020 and has received honors including the Utah Division of Arts & Museums' New Beehive Grant and the Salt Lake City Arts Council's Artist Career Empowerment Grant.

She has completed an artist residency in Japan, and her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and internationally.
